Meet our Governors

  • Mr Simon Gentry

Chair of Governors, Local Authority Governor

I joined the Governing Body as a local authority governor in 2006 having then lived in the village for 12 years. My background is public sector, working in Contract and Business Manager roles. All three of my children (as they once were) attended Over Primary School between 1994 and 2008.

In 2010 I became the Chair of the Governing Body and I am now in my tenth year in that role. I have supported the school in a number of ways during my time as a Governor, including chairing the Finance Committee for over 13 years, involvement in two Ofsted inspections and the appointment of Mr Fish as headteacher in 2012.

I am proud of everything the school has achieved in the last 14 years and support the work of our excellent staff who strive to help all children to maximise their potential through their important informative years. I look forward to continuing to work to achieve our vision of a school where children are happy, confident and have a love of learning.

  • Mr James Buckle

    Co-opted Governor

New to school governance, I joined the Over Governing Body in March 2018, and have found the experience very rewarding. I've worked in both the private and public sectors, for roughly equal time. A member of 4 committees, and the Parent Forum link governor, I hope to be able to support all interested parties in delivering the best outcomes for each of the children in our collective care, one of which is ours.

I firmly believe that these Primary years are vital, as they are where the foundations for learning, and life, begin to take shape, so anything we can do to deliver a sound basis for their future endeavours will mean that we have succeeded. For this reason progress is more important to me than attainment.

    Parent Governor

  • Mr Mike Fish

I have had the privilege of being headteacher at Over Primary School since 2012. Prior to that I taught for twelve years in several other Cambridgeshire primary schools. Having spent my childhood in Yorkshire, I moved to Cambridge to study Education and Art at Homerton College, fell in love with the city (and a local girl!) and have lived in the area since then.

I am passionate about ensuring all children have the best possible primary school experience. This means empowering teachers and building a school culture which prioritises children's wellbeing, love of learning and fulfillment of personal potential in basic skills and the wider curriculum.

  • Mr David Parker

    Parent Governor

I obtained a first class honours degree and PhD in Chemistry at the University of Nottingham before joining Johnson Matthey as a Process Chemist in 2005. I moved to the Royston Manufacturing Facility in 2007, where I have held a variety of roles supporting the manufacture of catalytic converters and soot filters for the auto industry. After 12 years working in the Royston plant I moved to support the business globally as Global Process Design Manager. I have experience of leading and developing technical, engineering and operations teams of up to a hundred people, and have owned revenue and capital budget management in my areas for the last 7 years. I have two children at Over Primary and am passionate about supporting the school to provide an environment in which all the children are happy, safe and can achieve their potential.

  • Mrs Laura Reece

    Co-opted Governor

I am an entrepreneur, providing first aid, medical and safety solutions to big budget film and specialist medical, fraud and audit for the insurance business. I gained my Bsc (hons) in 1999 at Kings College in London where I also became an advanced BSAC diver and instructor, spending a year as diving officer of my club, holding legal responsibility for all diving.

A registered nurse by trade I specialised in trauma and emergency medicine, later joining the Royal Navy and becoming a Lieutenant. After time spent overseas, I married my then boyfriend Will and started a new career in the insurance business. Will and I soon set off for new challenges in Switzerland, he as a particle physicist in Cern and me to take a step back from evacuations, repatriations and aviation medicine to have both our children in Geneva. They now attend Over Primary School. I was fortunate to be able to work from home whilst continuing my insurance career where I became deputy of an international medical team and specialised in medical fraud and underwriting. Since full time freelance work I gained the NEBOSH general certificate in health and safety and became an accredited counter fraud specialist.

I became a co-opted governor in 2018 as I believe a great education leads to a happy, fulfilled life and allows children from all backgrounds and abilities to make and take opportunities as they arise.

I am the chair of the health and safety and premises committee, the safeguarding and PHSE governor and am part of the personnel committee. I hope I can support the hardworking, excellent teachers and staff of Over Primary school in my role of governor and promote women in business and gender equality in education.
